Band camp ended yesterday and we survived it without incident. It was a good opportunity for us to get to know these kids as well as some of the other parent chaperones. It’s a great bunch of students because there is great leadership.
Being with these public school kids reminded me that kids are kids, whether in the church or in the school, there are quiet ones, loud ones, rowdy ones, ones with attitudes needing adjusting, ones needing friends, and all needing someone to care about them. We tried to take the opportunity to talk to them and let them know we cared about them. We simply tried to be Jesus to them.
One of the things I am still getting adjusted to here in the south is how everyone goes to church. We sit and talk to the other adults during meal times and church frequently comes up, God is talked about and everyone is comfortable. The director can even talk to the kids and tell them he thanks the Lord for them. They got done a routine on the field and his response was “Praise the Lord!” One of the assistants even had a “church service” on Sunday afternoon for the kids.
Our prayer is that we can have an impact on these kids and help them in deepening thier walk with the Lord. We want to see them move from simply going to church on Sundays to walking with the Lord 7 days a week. We want to use every opportunity we have.
