I had a great time with the Lord this morning while everyone else was still asleep. I am studying Genesis in detail and I am amazed at how it is full of hidden treasure. I have read Genesis so many times but everytime you read it you learn new things. Take Genesis 18 for example. Three visitors came to Abraham and instantly he knew it was the Lord. He ran to Sarah and told her to throw a little homemade bread together, QUICK! Anyone who has made homemade bread knows you do not throw it together, quick. The amount that Abraham asked for was more then enough for the three visitors to consume. Abraham wanted to lavish them.
Verse 8 tells us that Abraham did not even eat a bite. “While they ate, he stood near them under a tree.” Have you ever tried to eat when someone you respected so much was in your presence? I have and I lose my appetite, I can’t eat.
Verse 14 poses the most important question in the whole encounter. The Lord asks Abraham, “Is there anything too hard for the Lord?” What a question. Think about it for a while. Is there anything that God can not do? NO!
So I started to think about those two verses and here is what I came up with. When company comes to my house, I like to have the table set before they come so I can take my time and make it look nice. Depending on who it is, I may or may not eat as much as normally do. If the Lord was coming to my table, I know I would not be able to eat. I need to set my table for the Lord everyday and anticipate the One who can serve a miracle for dessert. Is there anything too hard for the Lord?
