Life is full of interruptions.  Many times though I don’t take them too well.  I struggle with detours.  They interrupt the way I want to go and add time to my travel.  I always think there is a quicker way around and that the detour is a suggestion.  Sometimes I have been right and have found a quicker way, other times I’ve ended up turning around and taking the detour.

I look at interruptions in my day like detours.  God will place someone in my path who needs to be ministered to and I’ll try to find ways around it because it’s messing up the way I wanted to go.  I get busy with stuff and don’t want to take the time to stop and help out a brother or sister.  Many times though, these interruptions are appointments from God.  I think I need to be doing one thing, but God has another idea.  I get focused going down one path and God throws a detour there.  The question that remains then is what am I going to do with the detour?  Do I go the way He says I should go, or do I try to find a way around it?

I read a phrase once which stuck with me: “A content person is one who can enjoy the scenery along a detour.”  I need to be more content with the detours in my life.  Instead of looking at them as interruptions, I need to look at them as opportunities.  I don’t want to miss being used by God in another person’s life.
